Range Technology RA007 DFM Disabler

Our take

The reference module for 2022.5+ trucks and 2021+ SUVs: the only one with a CARB exemption (2021–2024 models), and it also turns off auto start/stop.

What it's sold for

Range lists every 2023–2026 Silverado/Sierra 1500 and every 2021–2026 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon and Escalade with the 5.3L or 6.2L, plus 2022 refresh trucks (VIN 12th digit 5 or higher). It connects inline at the engine computer (two factory connectors), not at the OBD-II port, and it is the only disabler we found with a CARB Executive Order: D-115-32, 50-state legal on 2021–2024 models, 2025–2026 pending.

What owners report

Our summary of recent owner reviews (we read the critical ones first). We don't test units ourselves.

Likes

  • Holds the engine on all eight cylinders on most trucks
  • Also shuts off auto start/stop
  • Backed by Holley, the company that owns Range

Complaints

  • Check-engine lights on some trucks and Escalades, sometimes with codes a scan tool could not clear
  • Several 2024–2025 owners say cylinder deactivation still happens
  • Must come out before a GM over-the-air update or a dealer visit
  • A few owners found it hard to reach the right connector on their truck

Who it's for

Best suited to owners of 2022.5–2026 Silverado/Sierra 1500 and 2021+ Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon or Escalade with the 5.3L or 6.2L.

Not for

  • Pre-refresh trucks (2007–2022.0): get a classic disabler instead
  • Heavy-duty 2500/3500 trucks: no AFM/DFM to disable
  • California-registered vehicles

Limits & caveats

  • It reduces how often cylinders switch off. No study shows it prevents lifter failure. What fails and why
  • if the vehicle will sit a week or more, unplug it.
  • Expect 0 to 3 mpg less, mostly on the highway.
  • Unplug it before GM over-the-air or dealer software updates.
  • CARB Executive Order D-115-32 (2021–2024 models; 2025–2026 pending): legal in all 50 states on the covered model years, when installed per the maker's instructions.
