2022 Refresh and 10-Speed Trucks: Which AFM/DFM Disablers Actually Fit

Short answer

On a 2022 Silverado or Sierra 1500, a 12th VIN character of 5 or higher means the refresh: it needs a Global B module (Range RA007, BOOST DFM). 4 or lower is the Limited/LTD, which takes a classic disabler. With the 10-speed automatic (2019–2022.0 L87, some L84, 2018–2020 6.2L SUVs), Range lists its RA003B but most classic disablers exclude it.

Two different 2022 trucks

GM kept building the previous Silverado and Sierra 1500 into early 2022, sold as the Silverado "LTD" and Sierra "Limited", then launched the refresh with a new interior and large center screen. Under the skin, the refresh moved to GM's "Global B" electronics, where the control modules sit behind a secured gateway. Classic disablers can't talk to them, so the two 2022s need different devices.

How to check your VIN in 30 seconds

  1. Find the 17-character VIN at the bottom of the windshield (driver's side) or on the registration.
  2. Count to the 12th character.
  3. 4 or lower: 2022 Limited/LTD, classic disabler. 5 or higher: refresh, Global B module.

SUVs switched a year earlier

The Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon and Escalade moved to Global B with the 2021 redesign. Any 2021 or newer GM full-size SUV needs a Global B module, never a classic disabler.

The 10-speed problem

GM's 10-speed automatic arrived on the 6.2L L87 trucks in 2019, on some L84 trucks later, and on 6.2L L86 SUVs and the Escalade from 2018. On those pre-Global B vehicles, makers split:

  • Range lists its RA003B for 2007–2022 trucks "including 10-speed models".
  • BOOST excludes vehicles with the 10-speed from its classic model, and its Global B model excludes the 2019–2022 10-speed trucks.
  • Most Amazon clones: 29 of the 32 classic disablers we track exclude the 10-speed in their bullet points.

Even with a listed unit, a few 10-speed owners report clunky downshifts. Test it on your usual drive within the return window.

What about 2024–2026?

Range states the RA007 works on all 2023–2026 trucks and 2021–2026 SUVs, and BOOST lists 2022.5–2026 trucks. Some owner reviews of every Global B module mention 2024 or 2025 trucks where deactivation still happened. We mark these years "listed by the maker" with a warning, and we'll update as reports come in.

Listing titles vs the fine print

Many Amazon titles say "2007–2024" or "fits GM V6 & V8", then exclude the 10-speed and 2022+ refresh models in the bullet points. A classic $40–$70 disabler is not sold for a 2023 truck, whatever the title suggests. Our product pages show what each one is actually sold for.

Questions owners ask

How do I know if my 2022 Silverado is a refresh?

Check the 12th character of the VIN: 5 or higher is the refresh (Global B), 4 or lower is the 2022 Limited/LTD. The refresh also has the new interior with the large center screen.

Will a classic disabler work on a 2021 Tahoe?

No. Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon and Escalade moved to Global B for 2021, a year before the pickups. You need a module such as the Range RA007 or BOOST DFM.

My 2020 Silverado has the 6.2L and 10-speed. What works?

Range lists its RA003B for 2007–2022.0 trucks including 10-speed models; BOOST and most clones exclude the 10-speed. A few owners report clunky downshifts, so test it within the return window.

Do DFM modules work on 2024–2026 trucks?

Range says the RA007 covers all 2023–2026 trucks, and BOOST lists 2022.5–2026 trucks. Some 2024–2025 owners still report deactivation with a module plugged in. Buy where returns are easy.
